Professor Georg Raithel will give a talk. The abstract is below:
In my talk I will provide an overview over research involving laser-cooled
atoms. After a brief review of some laser-cooling techniques, I will
concentrate on topics pursued at the University of Michigan. These include
research on relatively dense, cold, highly excited matter. Collisions and
recombination processes in dense gases of cold Rydberg atoms and cold
plasmas will be discussed, as well as progress in the magnetic trapping of
Rydberg atoms. Another line of research deals with Bose-Einstein
condensation and atom interferometry. Recent results on this field will be
presented. The talk will conclude with an outlook of future work.
