This presentation will discuss contributions of the Environmental and Sustainable Technologies Laboratory (EASTlab) to Sustainable Engineering Research and Education in the College of Engineering over the past 9 years. New education programs the EASTlab has contributed to such as the Minor in Multidisciplinary Design, the Engineering Sustainable Systems Program, and the Design Science program will be introduced. Two diverse examples of research will also be discussed. The first deals with the development of new methodologies to evaluate the effectiveness of government policies intending to encourage sustainable design. The second deals with the development of technologies to promote sustainable manufacturing. The presentation will conclude with some remarks about the relevance of these programs to current and future Civil and Environmental Engineering students along with a question and answer session.
